About Karigar Biriyani
At Karigar Biryani, our recipes find their roots in ancient Tamil culture dating back to the Cheran era which was then called ‘Perun Choru’.
The word “Karigar” itself translates as the word for 'Artisan'. We promote artisanal activities among local communities by sourcing our packaging from villages in the south of Tamilnadu.
Residents practice the art of palm leaf weaving, which is the primary source of income for local women artisans. Industrialization has made this cottage industry as a whole slowly disappear. Through such initiatives, we aim to support our artisans, promote eco-friendly & sustainable alternatives to plastic and also preserve the ancient traditions and art forms of our rich culture.
